Christie Coker studied art at Lamar University in
Beaumont, Texas and after graduation taught art for more
than 17 years, first in the Golden Triangle area and
then in the Cy-Fair ISD upon moving to Houston in 1995.
Christie was awarded with the district honor of being
named Spotlight Teacher of the Year in 2001 before
transitioning from a full-time teaching career to pursue
life as a working artist. She is a member of the Visual
Arts Alliance (VAA); the Watercolor Art Society of
Houston (WAS-H); and Women in the Visual and Literary
Arts (WIVLA). Currently she serves as Curriculum
Director for City Artworks, a non-profit organization
that brings artistic enrichment to elementary and middle
school students in the greater Houston area.
